As soccer expanded in popularity, the landscape changed over time with many community clubs growing and prospering along with suburban sprawl. The trend is changing again as US Soccer is encouraging community soccer clubs to partner with other soccer clubs to form larger regional based organizations. The primary reasons for these partnerships is to provide more depth in numbers at every age level thereby allowing similarly skilled players to play together, furthering the recruitment of better coaches and establishing stronger management boards to hold coaches accountable in following a well-designed US Soccer curriculum. At the end of the day, this formula provides a better training environment for all children.

With that said, for the past 4 years, Pegasus has worked diligently to expand our base of players and hire personnel in order to independently create a multi-level organization that could achieve the goals as listed above. Over this period of time, we are proud to have a 50% increase in player participation as well as implementation of additional training and tournaments to better serve our players. Based on the ongoing internal review by our Board of Directors and the feedback that you have provided through surveys and direct communication, these significant achievements are not fulfilling the current and future needs of the community and the players. Furthermore, since we also determined that we have tapped much of the player resources from our community, we have determined that the best way proceed is to expedite our path to provide the best opportunity for our players and our community.

We are excited to announce that we will partner with the Chicago Fire Juniors North (“CFJN”) beginning with the 2013-14 season. Our partnership will be co-located in both Deerfield and Highland Park. After extensive review and consideration, we are confident that this partnership will provide greater player depth, higher quality coaching, stellar management and an affiliation with the Chicago Fire MLS team, all within our community or within close proximity. Most importantly, this partnership will benefit the development of our players while maintaining the community based club feeling that Pegasus has continually maintained throughout its long history.

The expanded CFJN will be led by Sole Antonijevic as Director of Coaching and Mimi Antonijevic as General Manager. Sole’s resume includes a ten-year professional playing career in Yugoslavia that concluded in the United States as a member of the Chicago Power. He was named USISL Coach of the Year in 1993, served as the Director of Coaching for the Illinois Youth Soccer Association, served as Director of Coaching from 1999-2009 for the Chicago Wind Soccer Club, and is an<strike>d</strike> “A” licensed coach and the current Director of Coaching for the CFJN. Antonijevic has also served as the U15/16 and U17/18 Academy coach for Chicago Fire and Chicago Magic. He was named Academy Coach of the Year in 2007. Sole’s wife, Mimi, is an experienced General Manager who currently handles all of the CFJN Club administration. Sole and Mimi live in Buffalo Grove and have two sons.

Pegasus Soccer Club will continue to operate, with the current board of directors, affiliate status with the Deerfield Park District and the singular goal of best serving the soccer players in our community. Pegasus will employ Phil Stephens as our Director of Operations where he will work with CFJN in both a management and coaching role. Pegasus will outsource our travel soccer operations to CFJN to create a partnership with greater collective players and resources. The Pegasus Board of Directors will continue to manage all Pegasus operations, oversee the soccer functions being administered by CFJN, and insure that player development continues to fulfill our expectations. All current Pegasus players and all new players from Deerfield will register through Pegasus SC, but will be combined with all CFJN players to create more balanced teams and more teams at each age group, all of which will compete under the CFJN club name. Practices and games will all be held in Deerfield and Highland Park.

In order to address any questions related to this partnership, we will hold an open house on Monday, January 28th, 7 p.m. at Jewett Community Center, Oak Room, where we will provide a brief presentation and then a Q & A with Pegasus board members and CFJN management present. We have attached some answers to basic questions about the logistics involved with the implementation of this partnership with CFJN.

Please note that the current 2012-13 season will continue as scheduled. We look forward to productive upcoming Winter and Spring seasons.

Detailed Questions and Answers

Tryouts:

How will tryouts work for CFJN? - We will hold tryouts at both West Ridge & Brickyards locations.
